Amamba.mx

Amamba is a café and juice bar in Roma Norte built around good ingredients, thoughtful sourcing, and a strong connection to nature. When the brother-and-sister founders came to me to create their website, I was especially excited because I already knew the space — I’d been there, tried the coffee and juices, and had a real sense of the atmosphere they wanted to capture online.

The café sits inside an ornate historic townhouse surrounded by the movement of Mexico City. We wanted the website to carry some of that feeling: warm, personal, playful, and grounded in nature.

Color became a big part of the identity. We landed on a mix of earthy greens, warm reds, creams, and brighter accents that brought energy to the site without losing the boutique feel of the space.

Design Goals

Design Goals

The challenge was translating Amamba’s personality online without turning it into a typical café website. I kept the layouts open and simple, bringing character through color, photography, typography, and recurring illustrations inspired by Mexican culture and nature.

I worked with a graphic designer to develop the illustrated elements, keeping them playful enough to add personality without taking over the page. The goal was something colorful and distinctly Mexican, but still polished and restrained.

The Build

The site was built on Wix, a platform I’d already worked with extensively. Rather than fight the limitations of the builder, I used its structure as a framework and focused on where I could push the design.

Every CMS has its quirks. For Amamba, it was about finding the right balance between custom layouts and the platform underneath them, while keeping the finished site easy for the team to manage.
